Terms of Service

Last updated: July 16, 2026

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS CAREFULLY. THEY CONTAIN IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS ABOUT AI-GENERATED CONTENT (SECTION 3), A DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES (SECTION 7), A LIMITATION OF LIABILITY (SECTION 8), AN ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND RELEASE (SECTION 6), AND A BINDING ARBITRATION CLAUSE WITH A CLASS-ACTION WAIVER (SECTION 17) THAT AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS.

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding legal agreement between you and the operator of ethan.bible and tinlanh.vn, including their related applications, subdomains, APIs, and installable apps (collectively, the "Service," "we," "our," or "us"). By accessing or using the Service in any way — including sending a message to Ethan, our AI companion ("Ethan" or "Ethan AI") — you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not access or use the Service.

We may modify these Terms at any time by posting a revised version at this page. Your continued use of the Service after any modification constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. It is your responsibility to review these Terms periodically.

2. Description of the Service

The Service is a free, faith-based platform provided for personal, non-commercial use, including: Bible reading and study tools; Ethan, an AI-powered conversational companion; audio narration; hymn and worship resources; reading plans; groups and community features; kids' content; a church directory; and related articles and tools.

The Service is offered from a Protestant Evangelical (Tin Lành) perspective. Content reflects that tradition and is provided for devotional and educational purposes; it is not the official doctrine of any denomination, church, or organization.

3. AI-Generated Content — Critical Disclaimers

Ethan is an artificial-intelligence system. It is not a human being, not a pastor, not clergy, not a counselor, and not a licensed professional of any kind. By using the Service you acknowledge and agree to all of the following:

  • AI output can be wrong.AI language models generate responses probabilistically and can produce output that is inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, offensive, or entirely fabricated ("hallucinations") — including misquoted or misattributed Bible verses, incorrect theology, incorrect facts, incorrect translations of original-language (Hebrew/Greek) words, and unsound advice — even when the output sounds confident, cites sources, or claims to have verified itself.
  • No reliance. AI output is provided for informational and devotional purposes only. You agree not to rely on any AI output as a sole or primary basis for any decision, and to independently verify anything that matters to you. Scripture quotations should be verified against a printed or officially published Bible; doctrinal questions should be brought to your own pastor or church.
  • Not professional advice. Nothing produced by the Service constitutes medical, mental-health, legal, financial, tax, immigration, safety, or other professional advice, and no professional–client, counselor–counselee, clergy–penitent, fiduciary, or confidential relationship is created by your use of the Service. Always seek the advice of qualified professionals.
  • Not a substitute for pastoral care. Ethan may discuss faith, pray with you, and reference Scripture, but it cannot replace a real church community, pastoral counsel, ordinances/sacraments, or human fellowship, and it has no spiritual authority.
  • Personalization is automated. Features such as memory, suggestions, reminders, reading plans, and family features are automated outputs of the same AI systems and carry the same risk of error.
  • You are responsible for your use. Any action you take — or refrain from taking — based on output from the Service is taken solely at your own risk and is solely your responsibility.

4. Not an Emergency or Crisis Service

The Service is not an emergency service, suicide-prevention service, or crisis-intervention service and is not monitored for emergencies. If you are in danger, experiencing a medical or mental-health emergency, or having thoughts of harming yourself or others, do not use the Service — immediately call your local emergency number (for example 911 in the United States, 112 in the EU, 113/115 in Vietnam) or a crisis hotline (for example 988 in the United States), and contact a trusted person. Any supportive language the AI produces in such situations is automated text, not professional intervention, and must not be relied upon.

5. Eligibility and Children

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians who enable child or family features are solely responsible for supervising their children's use of the Service and for all activity under their family accounts.

6. Assumption of Risk and Release

Assumption of risk. You understand the nature of AI-generated content described in Section 3 and voluntarily choose to use the Service with full knowledge of those risks. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you assume all risks arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, including the risk that AI output is wrong, harmful, offensive, or misleading.

Release.To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you — on behalf of yourself and your heirs, executors, and assigns — irrevocably release, waive, and discharge us and our owners, operators, founders, officers, directors, employees, contractors, volunteers, licensors, and service providers (the "Released Parties") from any and all claims, demands, losses, damages, and causes of action of every kind, whether known or unknown, foreseen or unforeseen, arising out of or in any way connected with the Service or any content it produces, including any AI error or hallucination. If you are a California resident, you expressly waive California Civil Code §1542 with respect to this release; if you reside elsewhere, you waive any analogous protection to the fullest extent permitted.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT, FEATURES, AND OUTPUT (INCLUDING ALL AI-GENERATED OUTPUT) ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY, OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, OBTAINED FROM THE SERVICE (INCLUDING FROM ETHAN) CREATES ANY WARRANTY NOT EXPRESSLY STATED IN THESE TERMS. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE THEY APPLY TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW: (a) IN NO EVENT WILL THE RELEASED PARTIES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR EMOTIONAL OR SPIRITUAL HARM, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR ANY OUTPUT IT PRODUCES, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES AND EVEN IF A REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE; (b) THE RELEASED PARTIES' TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (i) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE (THE SERVICE IS FREE, SO THIS AMOUNT IS TYPICALLY ZERO) OR (ii) TEN U.S. DOLLARS (US$10); AND (c) THESE LIMITS APPLY REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU; IN THAT CASE LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS EXCLUDES LIABILITY THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED.

9. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use or misuse of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right; (c) content you submit to the Service; or (d) any dispute between you and any third party relating to the Service.

10. Acceptable Use

You agree that you will not:

  • use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, or abusive purpose;
  • attempt to manipulate, "jailbreak," or prompt the AI into producing content that violates these Terms, misquotes Scripture, or bypasses safety measures — nor rely on or distribute any such output;
  • harass, threaten, defame, or harm others, or submit content that is illegal, infringing, hateful, sexually explicit, or exploits minors;
  • scrape, harvest, bulk-download, or programmatically extract content or data from the Service, or use output to train competing AI systems, except as we expressly permit in writing;
  • probe, disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, or attempt unauthorized access to the Service, its accounts, or its infrastructure;
  • impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation, or use the Service to send spam or unsolicited communications;
  • use the Service where prohibited by law, or in any high-risk context (medical decisions, emergencies, legal filings, financial transactions, or similar) in reliance on AI output.

11. Accounts, Suspension, and Termination

You are responsible for your account, for keeping your credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to all or part of the Service — and may remove any content — at any time, with or without notice, for any reason or no reason, including suspected violation of these Terms, without any liability to you. You may stop using the Service, or request account deletion, at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 17, and 18) survive.

12. Your Content

You retain ownership of content you submit to the Service (messages, notes, uploads, posts). You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, display, and transmit that content solely to operate, secure, moderate, and improve the Service (including quality review of AI conversations and abuse prevention), consistent with our Privacy Policy. You represent that you have all rights needed to submit your content and that it does not violate any law or third-party right. We may remove any content at our discretion.

13. Intellectual Property

The Service — including its software, design, branding ("Ethan," "Ethan.Bible," logos), and content we create — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms. Bible translations are the property of their respective copyright holders and are used under their licenses; your use of Scripture content must comply with those licenses.

14. Third-Party Services and Links

The Service relies on third-party providers (for example AI-model providers, hosting, Bible-text APIs, video conferencing) and may link to third-party websites, churches, or resources. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, content, or practices, and a link or listing (including in the church directory) is not an endorsement. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk and subject to their terms.

15. Privacy

Our Privacy Policyexplains what we collect and how we use it, and is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please do not submit information you are not willing to have processed by AI systems, and never submit someone else's personal information without their permission.

16. Service Changes and Availability

We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service (including Ethan, any feature, or any content) at any time, with or without notice, without liability to you. We do not guarantee that the Service, or any content or data (including chat history, notes, or memory), will be available, preserved, or retrievable.

17. Dispute Resolution — Binding Arbitration and Class-Action Waiver

Informal resolution first. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at [email protected] with a written description of the dispute and to attempt in good faith to resolve it informally for at least sixty (60) days.

Binding arbitration. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms that is not resolved informally shall be resolved exclusively by final and binding individual arbitration administered by a recognized arbitration provider (for U.S. residents, JAMS or the American Arbitration Association under their consumer rules), rather than in court. The arbitration shall be conducted in English, on an individual basis, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small-claims court where permitted.

Class-action and jury waiver.TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AND WE EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY AND THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. All claims must be brought in a party's individual capacity only.

Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within thirty (30) days of first accepting these Terms, stating your name and that you opt out of arbitration; opting out does not affect any other provision of these Terms.

Time limit. To the maximum extent permitted by law, any claim must be filed within one (1) year after it accrues, or it is permanently barred.

18. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence applies. Subject to Section 17, any proceeding that may be brought in court shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

19. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows the latest revision. Material changes take effect when posted (or as otherwise stated). Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

20. Severability; Waiver; Assignment; Entire Agreement

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it shall be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions remain in full force — except that if the class-action waiver in Section 17 is held unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim (and only that claim) shall proceed in court rather than arbitration. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization, transfer, or successor of the Service. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any posted policies, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.

21. No Third-Party Beneficiaries; Force Majeure

Except for the Released Parties (who may enforce the protections granted to them), these Terms create no third-party rights. We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including outages of third-party AI providers, hosting or network failures, acts of God, war, or governmental action.

22. Language and Translations

These Terms are drafted in English. Any translation (including in-app summaries in other languages) is provided for convenience only; if there is any conflict, the English version controls.
